Thread: Defender TD5 cruise control

I had the standard kit fitted by a certain personality out in North Western Sydney who shall remain nameless (suffice to say emphasis on past tense of this relationship).

Said personality also fitted my GKN Overdrive (which is wonderful) and remapped the ECU (shortly to be replaced by TR's program) but despite all of this was unable to 'map' the ECU to operate the cruise control with the GKN Overdrive activated.

It works fine until it is activated, but then with the '6th' gear engaged, she no go. Some may ask - what's the damn point then? And I'd agree, so I now have a useless cruise. Said personality has now given up...

Anyone know of or suggest a fix? Gav

I think you will find that the cruise control is set up specifically for the LR ECU and when the revs drop below a pre determined setting the cruise will not operate. I would not be too harsh on your mechanic, it is probablly not his fault. You may have to consult a technology wizard and even then it may not be possible. Talk to the manufacturer of the cruise control and maybe LR technical.

Cruise will engage at 40km/h in ANY gear....

Progress... Just waiting for the connectors....
And have an electronics company looking for some real neat switches....

Expect to despatch in 7-10 days (hopefully hoses will be here too)

Sorry mate - don't accept that - he sold me all 3 items and claimed they'd work together. And it was not cheap.

I guess I'll have to look for an aftermarket non-ECU cruise control there are quite a few on the market. Happy to take any feedback from out there if any have fitted them.

Mike, when you're done (and done helping me with my tune and rims ) perhaps you can try to unlock the mystery of why my standard ECU cruise doesn't want to work with GKN Overdrive - must be some dumb ECU switch/restriction which your electronic magic can erase... Gav

Just sorting the sale of the Defender out and then it'll be done...

Also searching for some nice switches for activation etc....
