while we are in coolant wonderland - flushing

    Okay

    1) whats the best way to flush and clean a glycol based system when doing a coolant replacement at the appropriate time.

    2) and whats the best way to flush and clean an OAT based system when refreshing your coolant.

should one use a cleaner of some type or just flush with water or ?

I think using a cleaner is a good idea.

from a call to the fella's at Tectalloy, they suggest that an alkaline based cleaner be used to prepare for a conventional silicate/nitrate inhibitor/glycol coolant. Something like their Mukowt.

For OAT inhibitor coolants, an acid based cleaner is preferred, particularly when changing from a silicate/nitrate inhibitor glycol.
Unfortunately acid based cleaners seem harder to get a hold of these days, with companies like Repco refusing to stock them except on special order (OH&S).

    same way for both.....

    drain + remove thermostat
flush with fresh water (use a pressure bubbler if you have one)
    drain
flush with reccomended cleaner (will be on both the cleaner bottle and the coolant bottle)
    drain
flush with fresh water (use the bubbler again)
    drain +replace thermostat
refill with required coolant at required dosage (for premix, pre mix it before you put it in)
