    Defender Steering Wheel

    Hi,

Does anyone know if a Disco Series 1 steering wheel (without the air bags) will fit a Defender?

    Thanks,

    Nathan

Simple answer: yes. You only will not be able to operate the horn with the push button in the middle of the wheel.

And there are people who drive Discovery.

I seem to remember that Defenders have two different steering wheel fittings (110+Td5 and Tdi?), so they will only fit some Defenders!

You need to check the type of spline and count the splines. There are about 3 different types of wheels. On my 2000 Defender a Rangie or Disco wheel will not fit. From memory my Fender is a 48 Spline. Issotta make a boss kit that will fit but you will need to trim the lip off the ignition/ steering colum surround so it does not rub.

I had to do way more than that with my boss kit. It was correct with the amount of splines, but we had to mount it up in a lathe and bore out the centre, trim nearly 10mm off the length to stop it rubbing the steering shroud, and even modify the internal taper a bit. Had anyone else actually done one that I could find, it would have gone back!

    Jeff,
The Isotta one fits fine. Just had to trin the little lip on the colum shroud and all was good. 2 minutes with a d saw and fine blade. Can not even tell.

Can't remember the make of mine now, but the fit sucked. I just couldn't find anyone else listing a boss for a '94.

I bought the unused steering wheel from Tusker's Td5 Defender. It fitted my 1985 County perfectly and looked far better.
