    Roof rack to chassis

Roof rack Custom made as so it is like bar work down the sides to the chassis..anyone done it here?
I'm contemplating the Idea to take the weight off the roof completely by using bar work to make a full size roof rack which encompasses the car but is mounted to the chassis That way I can increase the carrying weight recommended by L/R ..
Anyone done it here with pics and downfalls?

adds even more weight to the vehicle
the more you put on top to more top heavy you will be
but at least if you roll you will have protection

i must have the heaviest roof rack on earth and i do like the solid floor, no balancing on thin bars when i am loading up

I'm thinking about this, too. In my case the vehicle I'm looking at doing it on already has steps which are heavy-duty barwork bolted direct to the chassis. I plan to add what amounts to an external rollcage to these. My reasons are a little different - I want to go canvas roof and internally-accessible rooftop tent, so need something to hold the tent! But no IMMEDIATE plans, so I'll watch with interest to see what others have done or do.

There was a bunch of old Landcruiser troopies done for MMBL (Mans Mt Buller bus lines).

I still see some around every now and then and one of the guys I used to work with bought one and thought it was the ducks guts.

I dont know what tube size or anything but it had 6 uprights going to a normal luggage rack and the ladder was on the pass side rear 1/4.

They carried 12 peoples luggage and ski gear so Id imagine they would stand up to a bit.
