Just to add confusion I have in my mind that there is about 18 litres left in a Range Rover plastic tank when the red light comes on continuously on the straight and level.

I can see no reason that a Disco would be different.

In theory it equates to 10% of the tank. The light is triggered by the float position (from memory, someone will tell me if I'm wrong) in the D1. In the D2 I think it works through the BCU and the needle position on the gauge to determine when it activates.

Going back to the burnt out in-tank fuel pump posts.
It was found that running your tank low often, was one of the major factors in it's eventual failure, as the pump relies on the fuel to cool it.

Unless he is likely to have crap in the bottom of the tank, there is no reason that he should have a problem.

I have a brown Davis winged tank 135ltrs in my disco 1 and my light comes on with about 30 or so ltrs up my sleeve but thats mainly because of the wings.

I used to get down to 11ltrs with the original tank when the light came on which gave me about 100kms or so.

As for running the tank dry, In the diesels it wont be a prob but with the V8's I wouldnt do it too often as elecy pumps dont like running dry.

Parked outside the Post Office today on my way to the servo and when I started again after I had collected the mail the low feul light was on.

Paid 162.5 cents per litre to fill up and put 82 litres in.

Did not fill it chockers so allowing for a litre or so slack that means 12 left in the tank at that stage. Wonder how much of that is usable?
