Thats what it says to do except there is only ~2mm to file, and I'm not going to do it.

I'm wondering if your body may have shifted back a little.

The few body lifts that I've done (including LRA 2.5"), I loosened the bolts a little on one side then lifted 1 corner at a time on the other side. Then repeated for lifting the other side. I have never had problems with the length of the steering shaft.

Is that 2mm left sticking past the pinch bolt or only 2mm into the clamp?

If it's 2mm sticking out past the pinch bolt, then it is similar to mine, but I had about 3-4mm left on the shaft.

Yeh past the pinch bolt - so i'm not keen on taking any more off.

    I'll sort something out.

how about using a Rangie shaft - adjustment seems to be greater than on the Disco ones.

I installed the same kit on my 96 disco.
To start the job you have to loosen ALL the joints on the steering shaft. I removed the main steering shaft and filed the keyway/groove (on one end of the shaft) so that there was only about 2 mm of complete round shaft left at that end. By extending EACH joint (ie, both sides of each uni coupling) I was able to get sufficient grip on the main shaft to make it safe. It's probably the hardest part of the whole job. It's also fun putting the shaft back in so that when you drive the steering wheel is centred.

Definitely DO NOT weld anything on the shaft.

LRA kits are usually very comprehensive.... And if they arent working theres usually an anomaly...
