    Serpentine belt glazing up.

Hi, having trouble with the last two serpentine belts that have been fitted to the defender. They seem to be glazing up very early, and fretting at the edge. everything is in line, tensioner bearing seems ok replaced about 60000ks ago. Unless its doing something with revs up,? can't hear any extra noises apart from the usual tdi racket. The belts have been supplied by landrover parts suppliers, maybe there made in Korea.

    Cheers Sumo

    Hi Sumo,
I don't know why you believe that "everything is in line". IMHO what you are describing is classic to misalignment.

I think my problem, ( now fixed, is what your having atm)

as they said, its the tensioner, once you put the new one one you will see the tensioner doesn't bounce up and down anymore.( thats a sign it is stuffed)

HI , John the tensioner dosen't appear to bounce up an down excessiveley, will check the belt brand out ,

I'm just thinking here though, the tensioner on it was replaced about 65000ks ago, depending where that came from maybe there is something going on with it.

Stuff it i'll renew it and put another belt on and see what happens.

    Thanks Sumo.

Is the pulley on the tensioner spinning freely?
Are all the bearings in good shape. It only takes one dry, worn or tight bearing to stuff it up and there are a lot of bearings there.
