    floor anchor points

    Hi
    98 300tdi
I am wanting to anchor my engel directly behind the drivers seat, close to the door opening for access, positioned so that the fridge door opens away from the back of the drivers seat. Do people have any suggestions as to what type of floor anchoring system to use, how to attach/fit etc.

    thanks

I cannot see how you can do it without taking out the back seat.If you do, then use the back seat bolt holes for the rear. You would have to build a platform to make it level I guess.
What I use as tie down points on my RRC are marine stainless saddles attached to the front seat base/or floor or sides with big rivets. (similar to what is used on stainless wire railing terminations.) I would use nylon straps as the tie down , either with a ratchet or just the friction locks.

If I were tying down an Engel, I would buy the proper tie down points which attach under the handle attachment pionts, or make some myself.

Engel uses turnbuckles on their fridge slide which I have.

yes the rear ds seat is out. I might go into the local arb and have alook at their engel hooks. I dont want it on a slide, just accessable from the rear door. I do want the floor anchor pts to be quite close to the fridge base so that there arnt straps everywhere getting in the way.
    cheers

Have you got a cargo barrier in there by any chance?

I welded up an "L" bracket bent at 45 degrees which bolts to the sloping part below where the seat was. There is an existing bolt hole & I just matched the thread - all you have to do is cut the carpet a bit to get the bolt in. This is strapped to the front handle of the Engel.

The rear handle is just strapped onto the cargo barrier.

Very solid, and convenient when you want to access it.

In that case just get 4 of the stainless saddles and rivet them where you want them.
In your position , I would make a platform from say 7 ply, with legs at the front to level it, and bolt it to the floor , through the back seat mounts. It doesn't have to be particularly sturdily mounted, as you would then hold it and the fridge down with the straps through the saddles. Whitworths sell the saddles. Th ewebbing saddles amy be teh way to go in your case.

After reading PhilipA's post, I'd just add that mine sits on the carpet without any base board or anything.

I guess I am just trying to get it as far forward as possible to use the space best, by using the rear seat passenger footwell area.

If you do not need to do that it is simple.

I've mounted my Engel on one of the slide lock bases. The base can be bolted/screwed down to where ever you want it and then the fridge just slides & locks into place.

I find it handy so I can take the fridge inside & run off the mains supply if I'm stopping somewhere for a while or need an extra beer cooler when home.

Hi, My 40 ltr wacoe sat on a piece of carpet underlay on the engine cowl of a cab over kenworth with just a light luggage tiedown held by a lining screw at each end.It sat there for 4 years never moved the whole time i drove that truck.(About 1.3 million km) Doesn't take mutch to hold them just something underneath so they don't bounce.

Until you hit something or stop "rapidly"

Then you have a 40kg missile....

It will rip a rivet or 10 out of the floor in no time...

Weld up a frame, bolt it through the seat bolts and then turn buckle it down...

Much better to plan for the "hope not" situations....

I've had my Engel go flying offroad, it broke 2 good quality tie downs....

Luckily it was behind the barrier or I'd be dead...
