    2A comfort.....a contradiction?

Has anyone upgraded the seating in a series 2a?, if so can you please share what fits easily, im already looking to move the seat back a bit, being 6'4 i either need to move the seats back about 4 inches or add power steering and a small steering wheel.

Any thoughts would be most welcome.

    Cheers

I have VK calais seats in my old girl but haven't gained any space if anything probably lost a little in the head height . My mate has a shorty 2a and has moved the front of the tub back a few inches and reattached it . Has now got plenty of leg room and abit more arm space .

A bit of both sounds like the go for a lofty.

I think my S3's seats, are from an old Galant.
Quite comfortable, they are even lay back jobs.
I know, a bit pointless with the bulkhead there, but hey, I've got lay back seats in my Landy, have you?

Seriously, a bit of both. Monaro seats are nice and comfy, move the bulkhead back 6 inches, gives room to move. Add some ply door trim panels, suitably covered.
A bit of R1.5 pink bat, here and there doesn't hurt.
And "Flash tack" every bloody seam.

I thought I had that windscreen to roof line sealed, this winter, the water found its way between the windscreen and its framework.

    2A comfort .......

    (sorry I had to)

Actually is there enough depth in the seat base to just move the sliders back? I can't remember what mine was.

Lots of things that you can do.

The big problem is the transom between the rear tub and the front seats. Many people have cut this transom down, even as far as removing it completely like in the 5 door SW models and Santana in Spain have gone even further by removing the seat box completely as well.

Just be aware that it will weaken the support/protection you have across the vehicle and also the incursion of flying objects into the passengers compartment.

Any seating change must be mounted in a way that meets the ADRs for your model, (which is probably before ADR's if an S2a).

The easiest modification is to remove the top vertical section of the transom to the top of the sloping section and mount the galvanised capping in the new lower pocition. You will also have to make safe the sides where you cut down and modify the corner galvanised. This leaves the rear wheel boxes intact without having to find new supports etc. This modification will allow you to rake the sear back quite a few inches.

The easiest seats to get approved are the ones from a Defender as they have the correct mounting holes to pick up the holes already in the seat box. These seats and mountings meet the specs for later vehicles so are a simple certification.

Try out Defender seating (of the model you intend to get) and see if they suit your body shape!

    Hope this helps.

heres an idea I suffer the same fate but being only 6foot 1 and a couple hundred kilo squeezing into a Landy is hard for me too, now I reckon if u took the steering box out and rocketed down to a decent engineer they can cut the shaft and respline, refit the top bush and that should get a 2 or 3 extra inches, I am having mine done, mine has buckets which required major modification to put in, the rear wall was chopped out, bracing fitted under the seat box, the seat box has angle around the top and sides to strenghten, then some brackets were made to hold the bucket seats, the problem is the seats sit really high even with no spacers at all and only about 1/2 inch thick brackets between seat and box, I cant see properly, way to high, and u feel like u are sitting on a pole, plus its a **** to get in and out with out running boards, I am going back to original seats and putting the back wall back in and throwing the buckets up the street, my steerwheel looks like it can forward about 4 inches no probs, if I stuck with buckets I would use the seats out of a 60 series cruiser or a late 80s hilux as the drivers seat is real low profile and would lower to an extra 3 inches on what i have now, might be your best bet

At last - some benefit from being short! My 2A seems just fine.

It depends very much on what shape you are. I find my 2a is quite comfortable, but I have fitted late S3 high seat backs. I can see there may be problems with the swb with the back bulkhead being further forward, though. But I don't remember any comfort problems when I had an swb Series 2, although I was a lot younger then.

Perhaps one thing you might consider, with minimal change, is to get custom upholstery on a high seat back with much thinner but shaped padding. And perhaps a similar seat cushion. A motor trimmer should be able to advise you.
