If the trailing arm bushes are worn, it means that the rear axle can move around. The direction it moves depends on wether you're accelerating or decelerating at the time.
This movement is effectively causing the back end of the car to steer, which is what makes a 'lurching' sensation.

Hey loanrangie,
can you elaborate on your experience with pedders because i have had a little done there, they seem a bit expensive but they have been pretty honest with me of late??
As for the rear rear trailing arms, they look as if they are brand new so that should be all good. I asked them to check every bush in the car and they said that they all look pretty good, but i has to ask them to replace the y-frame ones just from what i had read on this forum(shouldent hurt).

Weeee, i actually got the parts fitted today and they "seem" to have fixed the clunking completly however the lurching still seems to be there, however, a lot less noticible.
Is there a simple way i can check if things like the transfer case, gear box are ok or is that a more complicated issue?
