Not that problem but I got a dealership to open up at 6pm on a sunday night for me to buy a lift pump once.
Thanks Massaro's (Charlie in particular).
Cost me a penny but I desperatly needed it.
Had a problem last weekend when the pully on the fan belt tensioner on my D2 broke.
The good news was I was on the road and not off roading, although the day before we had driven through some serious mountain track and wadi in Oman.
The bad news was this was the first day of the Eid holiday, and most places closed for sevral days.
The following day after being recovered to the hotel we decided to stay in, friends and myself searched some scrappies in Nizwa but to no avail but we met this Sikh guy who happened to know the Workshop manager of the Landy agent in Muscat (also a Sikh, and yes they were both Mr. Singh).
After a phone call and a 75 minute drive (in a Prado), Mr Singh opened the spares shop and I got the part. You dont get service like that every day
My D2 has 155,000 Km, but has anyone experienced this problem before.

I've done that on a Commodore - you'll notice that GM products of similar years use a tensioner of the same style. Grab a spare from a either GM product or TDi ( I believe GM send LHD Commodores to the Mid East ) around the mid 90's they made them of metal with a replaceable bearing (generic number 6203). Might be an idea to service the A/C bearing and have a spare alternator on hand: heat and sand (as you probably know) is hard on bearings and if the tensioner decided to die, others may follow.
i had a similar problem on my d1 where the bearing on the tensoiner siezed whilst we were away at jurien bay on a sunday.
luckily it was a public holiday weekend and the local garage was open on the sunday to cream off all the broken down tourist's. after a few hour's of umming and arring and "it's a landrover and it'll probably take a few weeks to get any parts in for that" i managed to convice the mechanic to let me have a try from his parts bin.
i found a bearing and wheel of pretty much the same size and what do you know it worked till we got home and were able to fit a proper item.
the bearing and wheel were off a holden![]()
Sharky or any one else, bearings i can understand, but how does the pulley break?
I may take to the one I have just replaced with a hammer to see if i can break it.
You did well to get the part.

Thanks for all your replies guys, I did strike it lucky despite the damn thing happening.
After closer inspection of the pully there are several more cracks and most likely this is due to high temperatures in the engine bay.
All the other pullys are metal, why not this one.
Anyway a spare is now in my box (therefore I will never need it)
D1 tensioner has a metal pully.
Ok, understand now,
so sharkey the pulley is not cast, what is it made off?

Looks like plastic to me John
thanks mate, thats a topic for conversation,
did they ever come out in plastic?
you full time in dubai or travel about?
have some friends over there in the petro/chemical business.
john
its a plastic pully and 90% of the broken ones Ive seen are attributable to stones and the like getting caught between the belt and the pully and giving it a nick or shattering it on the spot if its big enough.
once the running surface is nicked its just a matter of time but fortunately the nick tents to also mark the belt so you can catch it if you keep a good eye on the belt.
