Google is your friend. Google ZF approved oils or suchlike and you will see the approved oils for a 4HP22 on the ZF site.
I use Castrol Transmax Z full synthetic ( which is beyond dex3)with no problems and it is an approved oil.

Yesterday i googled ZF and Transmax Z and the concensus is Transmax Z is highly regarded for auto's and some manual boxes.

Yep, its pricey but if it means i get a few more thousand k's before a rebuild (god forbid) i guess its worth it. Mind you if i was working it hard on a regular basis i would just use the dex3 and change more often.

Yep, there is only really 3 ways to kill an auto prematurely

    1. fluid impurities, moisture especially

    2. heat, cooked fluid ****s them real quick

    3. mechanical failure, very rare, but when your abusive like myself, you get to see some strange stuff

Top 2 are prevented from regular fluid changes

the 3rd, well as mentioned, get of the load pedal

So if the fluid stinks/ looks of color, its burnt, change it promptly

Thanks for the heads up dex3 it is then. I've got 20 liters of the stuff so will use that from now on.
