    Hand brake ajustment

Just fitted the new hand brake cable.

How do you tell when it is at the correct ajustment??

Too lose it wont work and too tight it will remain in contact with the drum.

on the defer/perentine/county Ive always done it by backing off the adjustment on the handbrake cable/actuator AND the drum then adjusting up the brake adjuster till the the shoes just touch the drum then backing off the adjuster 1/4 of a turn.

once thats done pull the hand brake up one notch and adjust the actuator/cable untill the brake just touches. Drop the park brake down the notch you lifted it and if you got it all right it should now spin without touching.

Thats for deefers discos are a different kettle of fish but the same basic principal applies.

The book for the Disco1 says that you should adjust the drum by tightening the bolt until the drum doesn't turn then back it off until you can turn the drum.

Then adjust the handbrake lever until it holds the vehicle on the third click.

I've never adjusted the lever though. I just do the drum.
