    Took it all home to have a little play. I could not find any information about battery sizes using Google as now not so friendly.

    I have disconnected the battery from the unit and took a voltage reading at the plug when on.......27 volts

    The batteries...yes there are two are set up with negative to positive so when I read one battery its voltage is 12 volts but with the two 24v.

    What I was thinking to do was to charge my existing aux. battery when I need it and then if required have an inverter.

    So its game over at this stage.

    bugger! was looking promising... Flog it off to someone with an MQ Patrol that is 24v and use the money to buy a 12v one LOL

    3 options

    1.

    put the batteries back in the inverter, get a 12-24 step up inverter and insert that into the box and hook it up to the batteries VIA a relay controled by the 12v side. (add a fan running on the 12v side while youre at it.

    you should be able to get one that will drive a 5 amps onto the internal batteries and that should be enough to just charge the batteries and run a PS2 and an 8 inch lcd screen. I get a 3 amp draw on the 12v side of my inverter when its powering the PS2 and the LCD draws 1 amp once its fired up.

    hook that up to the aux existing aux battery system or the main with the relay also switched by the ignition key and your set. Might take a while to charge up if you let it flatten complete but it will charge

    2. Grab a pair of the old old school Isolated 12v transformer powered chargers that charge SLA's (switch modes Might work put I doubt it) one charger for each battery and the transformer part isloates out the 2 batteries that you have wired up for 24v letting you charge them off of 1 12v battery.

    3. put a cheapy modified square wave inverter in to run the AC input side of the UPS and let its line filtering give you good AC on the output side.

    4. Rewire the vehicle to 24v

    I have been having a play with an UPS inverter, and it will only work on 12v if I first have it plugged into 240v for a couple of minutes then disconnect from 240v then the 12v will run. Any suggestions?

    double check the manual and the software settings everyone Ive ever had anything to do with (except the uber cheap and nasty powerboard jobbies) have had a cold start feature. IF it doesnt then go and get an "inverter in a can" that can do 240V and then use that to start it.
