TD5: Intermittent fuel filter warning light

    Hi All,

Has anyone ever seen or heard of the TD5 fuel filter light (the amber one in the top right of the dash) flickering on - intermittently and sporadically?

The handbook says its due to excessive water in the fuel, which I'd be surprised about as I have only filled up in Caltex's in Melbourne metro areas. Unless there is a leak somewhere in the line (which is possible I suppose - I have another water leak into the passenger footwell, so anything is possible I guess!).

Also Melbourne City Land Rover 1 month ago gave it a 160,000 service and changed all the filters - or so they said - and this has only started happening since then. Do you think its worth taking it back and saying whats up and what did you do/please correct it?

    Cheers,
    Chaz.

Yes i have this as well, especially after rain or if i go through a puddle, if i drain the filter it's OK for a while.

Do you use a fuel additive??

    Chazb,
Assuming you have a Disco 2, look above the rear right wheel and you will see the fuel filter, and the water in the fuel sensor.
If MLR replaced all filters, then this filter will look brand new, be clean and have no gunk on it.
If not, then MLR charged you for something they didn't do, and you have a legitmate gripe with them.
    Cheers.

I think there is a bulliten on this, it's either a case of the sensor being faulty or too sensitive.

I have this too, it's nothing to really worry about at least that's what I found when I looked into it, unless the light comes on and stays on.

Oh and Baz - no I don't use a fuel additive. Would you suggest doing so if this problem keeps happening? If so which one?

    Thanks.

It's a common problem & we've replaced a few sensors over the years.
The later DiscoIIs have done away with the sensor all together.

Hi All, Had the same thing after I filled with bio fuel at Ceduna, thought I had picked up some water. drained it but no water. It came and went for a long time ,but now its off. I had just changed the fuel filter the day before.
Makes me feel a bit better now with no light..
