If the MAF does not fix your slugishness and higher fuel use, check to make sure that the EGR valve is fully closed with the engine off and not sitting a bit open.
For the ECU to use default settings with the MAF it would be open circuit. If open circuit it will be sluggish off the line but when you floor it the thing will hesitate then go like a rocket ship.
Crook MAF will tend to make it surge (feel like it is missing) at about 3200 rpm.
Also check your turbo wastegate is not stuck open slightly, losing boost. I run mine adjusted fully closed while the engine is switched off with no bad effects at all.
