Simple mods of a high level air intake, K&R filter and headers. Then a Mark Adams Tornado chip (non cat replacement chip from UK) and a diet of 98 RON activates that simple package very nicely.

Make sure all sensors are working, and the vac advance is doing its job.

Occasionally drive it like you stole it does them good too. This fits in nicely with
    performance testing and note listening.

Good luck with your V8 economy.... ha ha ha.

A pod filter isn't going to improve your economy on a petrol, neither is cold air.

You need warm air (the hottest it can run without detonating) to get an economy benefit. Yes it also reduces power.

I dont understand why all you diesel owners dont ride pushbikes--(the speed wouild be about the same)

Yup, one of the 'directors' of the production company where I worked about mid 1991 bought a new dark red 3 door Disco, we all thought it was very flash at the time.

The Disco was a bit different way back then...curiously no-one had any idea of its RR commonality...

oh, to answer your question, my country only driving averages 15l/100km, best was 11.3l/100km over about 1000ks, but there was a problem...

I'd love to hear that on as well
The XJ6 Jaguars that our club race, have the spot lihts removed and a funnel feeding cold air into the air intake. Cold condensed air makes a bigger bang in the combustion chamber.

With a petrol engine power is very closely related to airflow. The throttle reduces airflow to reduce power. Hopefully you all knew that already.

At cruise your petrol engine is heavily throttled (strangled in fact) to reduce it's airflow and power to the needed level. The throttling creates a large power drag on the engine.
If you can reduce the air density to the needed level without a big power sucking pressure drop then you can reduce the pumping losses and gain economy.

The easiest (perhaps only) way to reduce air density without the big pressure drop is by sucking hot air. This lets your throttle be open further at cruise, smaller pressure drop which is a smaller pumping loss.
Go too hot and you'll probably get detonation issues, but below that level there is economy to be gained. Yes the warmer air does reduce your available power.

Pod filters are useless for economy because your throttle is already strangling the engine. If the filter has 10kpa less pressure drop then the throttle is simply closed more to compensate, the total pressure drop is always the same.
There is a performance benefit, but not an economy benefit.
