Series 1 Disco dash, anyone keen?

I've been trying to get around to removing the dash to replace the heater core (blown head gasket popped it) but just don't have time.....

I have a nice, new copper one to go in place of the POS aluminium and poo one.

Is there anyone competent (that means being able to not only remove well but also to put back in with all the bolts it started with and no butchery) in dash removal who wouldn't mind earning a bit of cash for their troubles on the forum?

I just have way too many projects to get to this one done anytime soon and it needs doing. I'm over near Hornsby.

I'm in the middle of doing the heater in my daughter's Disco 1 - surprisingly easy to remove based on the info provided elsewhere in the forum.

The problems have arisen from the butchery done by someone else. They'd cut one of the pipes off with a hacksaw about 4" from the heater core and damaged the other one. That meant getting two new pipes plus the core plus the clips and clamps, etc.

The biggest hassle was getting the old pipes out, the pipe clamp screws at the firewall end are not accessible from under the dash, they require the heater assembly to be removed., A simple design change by LR would have made the job easy and have made no difference in assembly at the factory.

Anyway I got them out without damaging anything and have modified LR's design so it will be easy for any future replacement.

Tomorrow I'll reassemble it. I think my mod will also make getting the O-rings and pipes connected much easier

Hey Ron, is yours the update dash with the 'rounded' instrument binnacle, or the earlier one with the more squared off version?

Mine's a 1993 with the very first dash and (correct me if I'm wrong) it's a full dash removal to replace on these?

I've got the '93 ( although there were 2 releases that year - June and November I think), mine is the June version with the rounded (cut top corners) intrument facia.

If yours is the same then you will have to remove the dash.

Mine's the single heater control dash, the very first version. So it's gotta come out!

But then so does the t-case and gearbox (LT77 dead, have R380 to bolt back in) and the rest of the dead 3.9 has to come out so I can bolt in the new 4.6.

So there's a heap of bloody work to do without the dashboard project......
