    Disco cruise control

The CC on my V8 disco 1 only works intermittantly. Gut feelings of a burned out truckie are that the dec/res switch is a bit dicky but I can work around that, if it doesn t work I can manually (footly?) accelerate then use the set/acc switch, if it works. Sitting in the passenger side an electrical engagment can be heard somewhere, (under dash or bonnet?) yet CC does not engage. This is only intermittent, at times both switches work 1st, 2nd or 10th time. also the CC will drop out when I hit a relitavly minor bump, but may pick up again on the res switch, may not pick up at all though. My thoughts are a poor connection somewhere. Not being an electrical engineer my service manual on CD totally bamboozled me. Any advise/suggestions in plain English, preferably words of one syllable or less, greatfully taken on board. Thanks in antisipation.

check the earth to the cruise ecu. I had exaclty the same faults as you described. I spliced in a new earth and it solved all the dramas.

I thought it was a dicky set/accel switch at first as well

    CC issues prob not electrical

If you can hear a click, that is a sign that the ECU is working as it engages the relay. From the same experience with my Disco, the problem is much more likely to be the cruise control vacuum unit getting crud in it and/or drying out. It is located behind LH headlight and has a vacuum line connected. Dismantle and clean and lubricate the piston/cylinder walls, then re-assemble. Should be OK. If like me you dunk in gunk regularly, then is a much more likely scenario. Mine needs doing again and I'm going to seal it all up with silicone.
    Cheers
