I would definately mention this to the dealer, as It smells of low gas to me... I hope not, as I had high hopes for an A/C improvement from the new ones....

OK - I did a bit of testing today as I was driving around. The A/C doesn't shut off completely when it "dies". If I switch it off altogether but leave the fan on, the air gets a bit warmer so it is obviously still doing something.

If I leave it off for at least 5min then switch it on again it comes on cold. Then after another 10min or so it dies out again.

I tried mixing in some heat but the A/C doesn't come back on, it just gets hotter.

Turn the thermostat down. Having it up to high can cause the condensor to ice up. Used to happen to me all the time untill I worked it out. Your A/C will still cool the car, if anything its working to well and freezing instead of just cooling.
    Cheers Richard.

I did actually try that. I could feel the small amount of heat mixed in with the A/C but then the A/C did its thing and died-out so all I got was warm air.

    Just an idea,
probably the ambient temperature sensor goes cool in 10 minutes (in your case) and ECU gets signal to slow down aircon. Rave for TD5 has some description how aircon works, I think yours be similar.

Well I finally got the Defender to the Stealers for the A/C and a bit of other warranty work and they had it all day - AND DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. Spent all day taking photos and writing reports to get authorisation from LRA to go ahead. Honestly it would be nice to be able to take the car in just once to get repairs done .

Since they asked to have the car all day I got them to do a check over a number of things others have reported going wrong with their 07 Defenders - but it's all OK apparently .

Just the A/C and a minor paint defect (patch flaked off in the roof gutter). So now I wait another week before having to trek back across town - only next time I insisted they give me a courtesy car - probably a Honda Jazz .

Although it's no satisfaction to you, I'm sure it's a pain in the ar$e for the stealer, too.
I do work for some large Japanese owned corporations, and one in particular has to have warranty authorised by Japan.....
I cannot adequately express my frustration.
I sell the systems, I install them, I promise the customer service backup and I get hamstrung by corporate 'systems'.
Couple that with continual courier stuff ups (thanks Toll) it took me six weeks to get a new air conditioning system up and running after failing on commissioning.
It should have been going in less than four days, tops, and all thanks to a dodgy track on a PCB.

Unfortunately, I'd say it is your vehicle, mate. My AC starts cold - stays cold. I've driven all day with it on (40 degrees outside) and we have to turn the vents so they don't blow over us. In fact - unless Kat is with me I turn it off and open the windows, it works so well. Keep the dealer on their toes - if Southern Cross are anything like Austral you'll have to.
