Exclamation Lost Disco 2 Keys ... need BIG helps !!

HELP ........

I have the following problem :

[*]Brother owns 2002 Discovery TD5 Series 2 .........[*]He has 'misplaced' his remote key system somewhere !!![*]He has no spare key !![*]He is now currently in Indonesia. .... [*]and the vehicle is 'stored' in a lock-up in a 'remote community' in FN Qld.[*]There is no dealer here.[*]The nearest LR Dealer is 900 kms away.[*]I repeat : the nearest LR dealer is 900 kms away!![*]There is NO road access to this dealer as the road is closed to heavy transport.

And I really am in need of learned Disco drivers assistance here !!

LR Aust. put me in touch with a SA dealer who suggested breaking in to the vehicle via a window, finding "a little switch somewhere" to unlock the doors and then getting the vehicle loaded on to a container ship, sending it to the nearest dealer where they would need to "sort out what to do next ???"

Another dealer has suggested that I get the vehicle "towed to the nearest dealer" but they would need the spare key to "fix the problem???"

I won't go into some of the other more ridiculous solutions offered .... I think many of these dealers need to "up their medication to a higher dose !! "

I cannot believe that what must be a relatively common occurence [of losing the key] would literally immobilise the vehicle. We are talking some thousands of dollars here ..... and no guarantee that it can be fixed ???

Please, somebody, tell me they're all wrong ?????

And yes, it was his fault that the keys were lost .... but it don't help solve the problem .

Thanks for the anticipated help ......

Get the vin off the rego papers. Call the dealer, they'll give you a key code. Take the key code to locksmith, get key.

Or get dealer to send you up a new key from code and instructions how to reset fob.

Dunno where you find a locksmith on remote community, just as likely as a LR dealer.

Cheers

New key would be the quickest way. You don't even need the remote side of the key, as long as the blank matches the original.

You can then use the EKA (emergency key access) code to get around the security system.

The little switch referred to by the dealer is just the central locking button on the dash.

I had a dealer lock my keys in when it was in for a service once. They spent about 1 1/2 hours trying to get the doors open. In the end they managed to get some wire in and hooked to a door handle.

Obviously this only works if the thing hasn't been superlocked with the key fob. Then the inner doorhandles don't work.....

if you cannot get the car to a dealer i would think the dealer would need some sort of proof of ownership before mailing a key to just anybody.....you would probably need to fax them rego papers

you dont need the key from land rover you just need the key code which a lr dealer should be able to tell you from your vin number..
i went to a lr dealer and paid $30 for a key, he gave me a number which i had to tell the locksmith to get it cut..
then the locksmith tells me he could have saved me $25 by just going to him in the first place, he had exactly the same key..
i would be trying to get the key code from a dealer..
and with any luck you can find a decent locksmith..

good luck

Where in FNQ is the vehicle?

Getting key cut from code and using EKA is the best option.

The VIN number should be on the Rego sticker, but it's also visible in the lower left of the windscreen.

There's no way to make a new fob work without access to the BCU.

I own rovacom because my nearest dealer is 1100km away. At one point it was over 2000km. Go to love Land Rover's service agent network

Pedro,

Just to repeat the above.

1. Get VIN number of Vehicle and a dealer can then supply you with the EKA (emergency key access code) and also the key code
2. Take key code to a locksmith and they can cut a blank to fit the door lock
3. Using EKA and new key you can then open driver's door and start vehicle.

Instructions for using the EKA are in the owner's manual (on the RAVE CD). I can email you the page if you need it. The number is a 4 digit Hexa-decimal code (i.e. 1 through 9 = 1 through 9, A=10, B=11, C=12, D=13, E=14 and F=15)

The FOB (or Plip or Remote) of course will open the doors and has a key blade, but as you said this is lost.

Lost Disco 2 Keys ... need BIG helps !! NOT !!

Many thanks to all the posters .........

After much souilsearching and even more old-fashioned plain looking ....

The missing keys have been located, ... in a place looked at, at least three times before !! Buried in a plastic bag that was used to "collect" all the things from the car soon after finally closing the doors. Keys were lodged inside a folded towel, thusly making no jingle when shooken ???

Said brother, who is now not sad brother, owes me a slab !!

Thanks again to all .......... even the entertainment value posters ???
