    Issues with new D3 TDV6

we purchased a new 2007 D3 TDV6 in August from Pacific Land Rover at Marroochydore, QLD.
It has a number of problems with it, the most severe being a response problem that has left us stranded accross roundabouts and while changing lanes.

When it occurs it is like the engine is off, there is no response at all. Then after several seconds of "thinking" about it, off it goes. As you can imagine when you put your foot down to accelerate into a gap or through a roundabout etc the last thing you want is to have no reponse. The wife is extremely wary about it as am I.

We nearly got cleaned up by a truck as aresult of it. Imagine trying to pull out of a side street and not knowing if it is going to respond!!!!!!

LR do not seem to care too much.

It is very dangerous and my thoughts are that it makes the vehicle "unfit for purpose"

Now the dealer has fiddled with it on a number of occasions, has loaded all the latest software patches and acknowledged that there is a known problems with these vehicles in regard to the response issue.

They are now trying to duckshove the issue by saying it is a turbo lag problem, I know what turbo lag is and this is certainly not that.

After putting the vehcile in for it's 12,000km service the other day they have now sent the software off to Sydney for it to be analysed by LR technical dept down there, I believe they (Sydney LR) send it off to LR UK for their thoughts.

Lastly when we took delivery the wipers left a marked line accross the windscreen in several locations. I pointed this out to the dealer and they refuse to rectify the problem. This is outrageous. I pointed out that it was a roadworthy item and they just shrugged and could not care less.

I'm really getting Peed off now and wonder if anyone else is having problems and what they have done or are doing about it.

By the way I took it on the beach for the first time over the break, forgot to let the tyres down and bogged it down to the doors.

I did have it in sand mode, but in high range. I tried to get the active diff lock to engage but without any luck.
In the end a guy in a pajero pulled up, he get bogged too. His mrs was very nice though and as it was very windy her skimpy little dress was all over the place hehe

Then a guy in a cruiser rocked up, we dug the wheels out and I was snatched out backwards. No hook that I could see on the front

The pajero then got pulled out too. Just as well the tide was on way out as I was close to the water line but still in the soft stuff.

Went back next day, let tyres down to 18psi, sand mode, low range, 2nd and it flew through it. Once past the really soft sand I put it into high range and it cruised easily in 4th at about 60km/h. Temp did not budge.

Curious about the active diff locker as LR reckon it is automatic when you are in low range when it detects the lack of traction. I would have liked to be able to lock it in manually.

Other thing they said was to turn DSC off when in the soft sand. Any thoughts on that?

    cheers

Peter, I am aware of cars being replaced in similar circumstances. If it's a real safety issue that the dealer is unable to fix then you have a chance.

You need to get your documentation and logs of the problems in place, and then take it to LR. However you'll have to be very pushy about it. Most importantly you have to act quickly as the longer you leave it the less your chance of success is.

The two times I've seen people be successful in getting new cars they have had to threaten media. You can't be a nice guy about this or you'll just get brushed off.

I can't emphasize strongly enough that you need to act forcefully and quickly.

Yes thanks for that, quite aware of the facts in such matters. I am waiting on their response to this latest one where they have sent the s/w back to LR technical. Once I have that response that will then determine my next course of action.

They have been put on notice just before the Xmas that I consider the vehicle to be "unfit for purpose" and I have put then on notice to remedy the situation immediately or further action will be forthcoming without further recourse to them.

Shall we say that forceful and assertive tend to be natural traits with me.

    Peter,

Sorry to here about your problems. Touch wood mine's been faultless so far.

Re the wiper blades; I found they were crap as standard and have since replaced them with Aunger blades which work a treat.

Front recovery point; behind the plastic panel under the front number plate.

FYI I've learned that it's best practice to leave this cover in the garage at home when going off road!

Why not just show them this post seeing as it's got their name written in it..... let them follow what you may or may not do. Send them an email with a link..... Obviously the bad publicity is already now in cyberspace.

Hmmm.... I've driven LOTS of TDV6 Discos and I've never had that happen to me.

Thinking through the various systems that are there, one thing you could try (in the name of fault finding & diagnosis) is to disable DSC and see if it still happens.

As for a front recovery point... It's centre mounted, just behind the plastic cover under the bumper.

Wait a short time, whilst still in warranty to see what LR are doing about it...in the old days (only a few short years ago) they were magic with warranty in my experience. Then, if no luck, get a solicitor and demand to have the engine and looms replaced, or another vehicle, or full refund under the Sale of Goods Act/Trade Practices Act (Qld and Commonwealth respectively). If you want a referral to a good solicitor please PM me.

As for the sand, the LR3 has low profile tyres and I recommend that you get all the help you get right from the outset in soft deep sand - airing down. Lockers on the beach dont help much at all. TCS is handy but only if the CDL is locked, but overall a locked CDL and low (preferably high prof) tyres with an auto trans is the go.

    Cheers

Does it do the hesitation thing all the time?

If so simply take the mechanic with you and replicate it? (while filming it)

Enough pressure and use of S75A TPA normally wins the day.

WRT to S75A YOU have the right to a full refund - basically it is your choice.

I have the V8, so can't comment on the TDV6's, but obviously a major problem, pity you dont have a dealer like I have here on the Coast as they are excellent. Also did same thing getting bogged in sand at Bribie on first outing, full tyre pressue, high range, DSC on. Also got snatched out. Once aired down, low range and DSC off, no problems and none since. Likely reason that locker didnt engage was you already bogged, maybe with some momentum in low range it may have locked in. As per previous bogging, I got bogged again 100 metres up the beach and a nice chap checked to see if the air was out of the tyres, they werent and I was still in high range. He and his son aired down my tyres, told me to put it into low range, DSC off and she popped herself straight out. Big lesson learnt. DSC helps to prevent wheels spinning, in sand you need the wheels to spin to maintain momentum. I also switch it off in mud,

    Regards

    Stevo
