both doors are difficult to open from both inside and out...resulting in the lh door handle splitting. trying to get a few answers before I start pulling the door apart.

Sorry I haven't had that problem. I'd just rip one of the doors apart and see what part of the linkage is sticking. However I'm sure someone here has experienced the same problem before and will help you out.

Yeah i had that problem with the disco i have when i first got it
Take the door cards off and tighten the metal rod that contects the handles to the door latch. Pretty much self explanitry once you have the card off and see it. They just streach over time and need to take up the slack

Before you take the doors apart, make sure the locks themselves are screwed to the door tight, and that the striker ( protruding knob on B pillar ) is in the right place, taking into account door 'sag'. The door hinges have replaceable inserts if your door sags too much

When the door handle splits, the handle makes the mechanism twist so more leverage is required to open the lock, twisting the handle more, etc. At one point the door won't open, even after aligning the striker and lock. I reached that point last month, and I found that 4 door RRC locks are identical to Disco, and seem to be of hardier metal. They have the chrome plating on the handle.
It takes less than 30min to change over the lock, but be warned that the fascia retaining pins will be brittle and break when you remove the door covering. Have a few as spare would be a good idea.

Go to Supercheap and by the tool for removing fascias with out damaging the pins. Cost about $5 and makes the job alot easyer
