I have bearing numbers from my 85 RRC hubs. Will they do?
Those of us who ordered the Truetrac & axles are going to need a set of bearings, seals & gaskets to do the job.
I would like to obtain the best quality bearing that I can get in Oz, therefore would be interested if any have the bearing numbers required (not part number) if can supply them so we can cross reference to a FAG or any other good quality bearing brand.
If any of you think about other important issues to have everything ready for the change over will be appreciated.
Also we can look into a bulk purchasing of bearings and seals to get the best price possible.
Cheers

both detroits ive got came with new bearings in the box?
cheers phil
Generally, you won't have to replace much when changing over to the TT - hopefully, as Phil says, the carrier bearings will come with the diff center. The pinion bearing seal might be something to replace if you wanted to, but since the pinion isn't being touched, you can skip it if you want to. The axles ( And I didn't take much notice since I'm not buying them) should be direct swaps for the LR ones, and again, unless you want to change the hub bearings, there isn't much to do. I found in Sydney that CBC and other bearing suppliers are a bit awkward to deal with when buying a LR bearing - usually the LR suppliers (Not dealers) are cheaper and have more stock. If you do want to try getting new bearings for the hubs, they are a Timken set 37, and timken are pretty good. Whilst a clean and regrease of the hub bearings is a definite job to do (unless you've gone oil lubed) the only thing I can recommend is a new set of hub seals, lockwashers and decent silicone when refitting the diff casing etc . If it turns out that new carrier bearings aren't included, there once was a thread with the generic numbers of the said bearings - EDIT - see below: Keith is the man.
I think I've covered most of it - setting the backlash can be for later.

Depending on how thrashed your diff is you'll likely not need to change the Pinion bearings but a pinion seal is in order.. The 24 spline carrier bearing 'Cone" is a LM102949 the Cup is an LM102910.
For those that would like to change the pinion bearings the gear side Cone is a HM801436 the cup is a HM801310, the yoke side bearing cone is a HM88046 and the cup a HM88010. These are standard Timken numbers that any bearing house should be able to cross to the bearing they supply. The pinion seal is defferent over the years so be sure to tell your parts supplier the year of the diff you are working on. The earlier dust shield is sort of flat and the seal sits flush with the diff housing the later dust shield goes into the diff housing a bit so the bearing sits mor "inside the housing. the later seal works with both dust shields the early style does not.
For you hub seals use LR P/N RTC3511. this is a wet type seal and really keeps the muck out of the brearings as well as preventing leaks. I also recommend to my customers that the remove the inner axle seal (behind the spindle/stub axle) and let the gear oil wash over the wheel bearings keeping a constant flow of fresh oil over the bearings will allow them to live a much longer life. initially grease them when you change them though.
Long as we're talking bearings. Salisbury Carriers are: cone 387A cup 382S the pinion bearings gear side cone HM803146 cup HM803110 yoke side I am not sure.. The seal is a National Seals 9316..
Hope that's helpful..
Depending on how it all pans out I get discount at the local bearing shop (the green discout suit is a good thing) If it turns out that cheapest way of getting the diffs is in the bulk order deal IF you can fnid out + confirm which bearings and seals you want then I'll go and pick up whatever you want and deliver them with the diffs. $$$ before delivery tho.
