A brand new 2 hand D2 with issues. HELP!

Hi Guys - Its been a long time since I posted. I sold my S1 disco 2 years ago and just aquired a 2000 S2. As is the case with these, it has a few issues. Will be replacing the exhaust manifold, studs and nuts this weekend. New bisteins to go on as well. Wiring harness has been done and have no idea what the oil pump bolt is doing! At 170k's everything else seems ok at this stage.
    Two questions:-
FIRST:- I intended to keep the original springs as no visible sag, just completly stuffed rear shocks and the fornt almost as bad. No ace or SLS, not interested in lifting. However, would king spring standard height improve overall performance as well as load carrying ability or is standard ok with the bilsteins?

SECOND:- Despite filling the tank to absolute full the guage reads only 3/4. Pulled the pump and sender out and the sender does not seemed burnt nor are any of the fittings loose. I did however adjust the float arm as it was not going all the way to the top to enable a full read. I am sceptical that this has fixed the problem. I have only done this last night so don't know yet if problem solved. The float arm looked bend looked standard before I got to it but now seems to read correctly on the dash. Did I fluke this or is there another known problem with this that I have missed?

Thanks in advance for any replies.
It is great to be back in a disco again.

G'day, and congrats on the your new DII TD5.

The bilstein shocks to suit a stock, non-lifted Disco II part numbers are as follows:

    Front F4 BE5 6046 HO
    Rear F4 BE5 6047 HO

If you have the longer Bilsteins, they are not suitable, as the shocks will be bottoming out before you hit the bumpstops. That will definitely wreck your shocks.

Not sure what the story is with your fuel gauge. I suspect the previous owner must have bumped the fuel tank coming down a ledge, with rear shocks not working. Is the rear tank somewhat "reprofiled" where the big metal strap is?

No visable sign of damage to the tank. The previous owner towed a caravan and I suspect thats why the shocks are ...... Checked the shocks and that is the part numbers. My sons mate is a mechanic at Grahme Coopers so was looked after. The fuel guage stumps me, considering you can't by the sender on its own you buy an ASSEMBLY which included the pump and for the TDd thats the best part of $900!! You can see why I am asking the "wise ones" their experiences.
    thanks anyway.

Related to this issue, I presume there's absolutely no point trimming bump stops if you're going raised coils (without lowered shock mounts) - in fact I note that Equipe stock raised bump stops for lifted Defenders presumably to avoid shocks bottoming out?

Definatly do not want to raise it, the boss will gut me as she is the regular driver and not that tall. So with standard height Billies do I stick with the standard rover springs that have not sagged or go standard height Kings for better load, etc.?

King's "standard" replacement range tend to lift most passenger cars around 1/2" to 1".
This may have more to do with them generally being heavier rate than the OE, but all the same something to be wary of if you are adamant you can't have it any higher whatsoever.
