    hi foz

    hi foz
yeah i had it in low locked when the back went & left it there because we were certain we had broken a rear axle. the front went while trying to drive out of the quarry area & with the wheels turned hard left i reckon it must have butted up against a rock as i loaded it up.

    hi ben

yeah we are trying that next. i'm heading up the workshop soon to try dropping the front shaft out & then try with & with out lock to see if there is a difference.
i don't think the gearbox is damged & likewise if it is the transfer i don't think it's the gears as such. it still drives well on the rear & is smooth running on the wheels.
    very odd...and expensive!

when i last drove it ...

when i was last in the seat it was doing it as soon as you started to ease the clutch out.
apparently today it has only done it when they tried to drive it onto a hoist & then they backed off & tried again with no noise whatsoever.
i would love it to be a cv but i don't know!

Hi Mate - hope it is something easy like a CV. CV (or anything in the front end) should be easy to diagnose once the front prop is removed and the front end jacked up.

I have been inj Perth for about a year and a half now... Finally back in the same country as the landies.

check out the clean break on this axle

so smooth you can run your finger over it without a scratch! wish the front was as easy to sort out though.

brian hejlm has a good v8 tcase sitting on a pallet next to a stuffed lt85 in the workshop on amberly.

Give him a PM and see what he wants to do with it. If its as good as the gearbox I got off the front of it it will do you well providing ti can be adapted up and the gear ratio is the same or your prepared to live with the gearing change.

If he wants it moved as I have running around to do next weekend I might be able to drop it off N/C if its to be sold.

    awsome news everybody

thanks everyone who has had input into this little drama.
great news this arvo...it appears i achieved the almost impossible & snapped not only the rear axle but also the front left cv & axle spline!
i know that doesn't sound great but it's much better than the alternative!
thanks again to all who offered advice & parts.
you are the reason this site works so well & an absolute pleasure to know!

That is great news! Aftermarket AEU2522 (upgraded) CVs are about $65 each on ebay, then you just need some 23/24 spline inner axles.

You need to post some pics of the front end carnage!
