You will struggle if you tow on the sand and you don't have the CDL, i tested this when i did the Simpson, the TC was working overtime and it was struggling alot up the dunes and at the time the sand wasn't soft, it was pretty firm as it had been raining when we went.

I'd look into getting the CDL if you plan on towing your camper on the beach.

I thank you for that. I'll consider it a future mod if I ever buy a camper. For now, it does what I ask of it so I'll leave it the way it is. I've got the finances put aside but that'll just have to earn some more intrest 'til the time comes.

All good then, just a bit more info for you, that may help, there are lots of people that say air down the trailer and lots who say don't, i aired down both, my camper has the same track as my Disco, which does help, especially as my camper is around 1.3 ton.

I did find that because of the low speeds going across the Simpson and the campers weight (we averaged 17kph for the 350k 3 day crossing) and mud clinging to the underneath of the car, we had the transmissiom temp light come on several times (mines a manual) usually it came on late in the day, this was a good excuse to camp for the nightso if your going to do any towing and you have an auto get an extra transmission cooler fitted as well as the CDL or you could cook you transmission alot quicker.
