    Smile cdl and/nor traction control

    hi everybody

just engaged (manually) my cdl on the 99 disco 10mm spanner used . started engine CDL light on dash lit up and so did TC light. does that mean when the CDL is engaged the traction control is disengaged ? also turned off engine then disengaged CDL restart engine and re-engage CDL and the TC light didn't come on does this mean you can trick the electronics and have both working?
    all advice trully appreciated

    cheers mark

You are spot on. TC wont work if you start the car with the CDL engaged. But if you engage CDL after starting the car then you have both.

A few people seem to worry about haveiing TC working in some environments and want to disengage it, but for me I like it always on. Cant see how it wouldnt help in most situations.

    Cheers

Depends who you ask mate. I personally leave it on. I have done tonnes of desert trips and did 2 weeks on Fraser and didnt have any problems, but as said before others dont like it in sand as they think they need to spin wheels to maintain momentum or something. May depend on whether the sand is hard packed or soft.

It really comes down to preference. I would try it out in both situations and see what you like. If you dont have a CDL actuator you will probbaly get pretty sick of getting under the car to disengage before turning the car off, so you might as well just rely on the CDL and leave the TC off.

    Cheers

p.s- you must have D2 as the D1 didnt have TC...

CDL in on the sand all the time. I have found that with the right tyre pressure and CDL the TC almost goes to sleep. I usually leave CDL engaged all the time on sand and that means if your on a trip like morton you will turn off and on a number of times and with CDL engaged the TC will be disabled anyway. Unless you re-engage it after start up everytime.

Hi Mark, as Angus and ak have said, keep it on.

D2s are very good in the sand

Just got back from Rainbow beach to test the need to have the CDL restored on my D2. (mines a 2002 no CDL guts in the transfer case)
I'm not going to bother! The disco performed admirably in very rough conditions & in very soft sand on steep climbs with just traction control.
It's all about momentum & correct tyre pressures.

    hi psynergi

What tyre pressures did you run up there? I was thinking of trying around 18 psi and see how it goes have never towed camper in sand before and it weights about 1300kgs anyone got any advice on weather to let the tyres down on the camper or not ?

    cheers and thanks again all

I generally run 20psi as it seems to keep me out of trouble and I have the option of going lower if I need to. I've never towed a heavy trailer in the sand but I have been advised that you should air down on the trailer too.

    cheers

As has been said, climb under on the barge over and leave it that way till you come back. There is nothing on Moreton that will be a challenge anymore, especially with all the rain we've had. TC won't be required, merits or drawbacks arguments aside. 20psi is popular.
Last time I was over I noticed that indicating high or low is being actively discouraged and instead they are promoting simple conventional 'keep left' road rules.
So just something to be even more wary of if you're pulling a trailer/van and indicate that you are wanting to go low, don't expect many to understand anymore.
    Have fun mate.
