I'd check the Disc brake shields are not rubbing. They crack around the mounting bolts.
Hi,
I have a strange grinding noise in the back of the MY2003 TD5 Disco only going around a roundabout at this stage.
Climbed underneath and tried to move everything to see what it might be but nothing seems worn or loose. It seems to only happen when the disco is subject to sideways force on the roundabout.
It must be a Landrover thing and it's trying to tell me something is on the way out.
Any ideas/advice on where to look is appreciated. Do not have a Landrover dealership for 1,550 klms and no Landrover mechanic in Karratha.

I check it in the datlight tomorrow Slunnie. Does sound like metal grinding on rotating metal and only happens with a heavy sideways flex.

Rear wheel bearing?
Disc covers as noted?
Loose wheel nuts?
Watts linkage bushes? - clutching at straws with this one.
Wheel bearings, wind down windows drive in a cutting or beside a concrete wall and have a listen a high pitced whine or alternatively jack up each wheel and pull up/ down and left /right for bearing play.

Thanks for the info BigJon. I have checked the wheelnuts and they are OK.
I gave the wheels a big rock and cannot feel any play. Will check the shields like SLunnie and you have sugested as well as jack up the back and spin the wheels and listen for noise.
Thanks

Brad if I can help you find it please call me 0448329492
I should be free on Satursay
does it only do it on right handers........?
its not a diff lock or anything like that.......
Crownwheel retaining bolts coming loose?
Rock stuck somewhere?
If the vehicle has ACE then perhaps a small stone is caught between the valve block and the chassis, although when it happened to mine I couldn't work out if the noise was coming from the back or the front diff - it was from neither.
