Thanks for all the help!! (that excludes the NRMA)
Yesterday we checked and all seemed pretty dry in the engine bay, there was water but ECU dry. Today we found water residue in the air filter and part there of, was damp. Also had a few drops of water in the pipes leading to the turbo.

Sprayed the alternator with wd40 and cleaned the fuel filter plugs , check all the connection and replaces the OIL, (thanks GreyLandy for the help). We also removed the air filter

After all this the car did not crank first time round on the second or third it started and all seems to be fine now. The initial problem where the car would cut out when I accelerated was not an issue any longer. Drove the 140km back home. I'll take the car in tomorrow for a checkup at ATV, and then the carpets...., ACE suggested to take it to a detailer (next door to ATV).

Getting back to the initial problem, when I drove into the mud hole (to fast in the first place) my front diff hit the 'middle man' and at that point the car just went dead and I could not start her for a few minutes. The she was fine for a bot died and she was good to get me back. Only in the morning did I have trouble again intermittently. Would like to know what caused the sudden shutdown, though I guess we can now only speculate on the cause.

    Thanks once again.

Possibly the fuel cut off inertia switch located on the bulkhead, passenger side in the engine bay. I dont think it resets automatically so yours may have a dodgy conection or simply be loose? Worth a check?

Interesting, but I was still able to drive and after a short drive and stall I could crack but it would not start?

between water in connection fouling the signals to the brain, a slight bit of water on any of the air intake sensors fouling them or making them send way out of range thats pretty much going to cover it.

my inertia switch is a bit sensitive and strangely seems to be 2 staged. If i slap just the right spot of the firewall with the rubber mallet I can make the hazards come on and if I tap the sensor itself it shuts the engine down. The hazards self reset but if the engine shuts down from it I have to manually push the reset button while the ignition is off (or push it then cycle the ignition)

Im not sure if its ment to do that or not but if it had killed the engine i know you have to manually press it to restart.

    inertia switch

I haven`t heard that the switch times out and resets.
Think that once triggered it needs a manual reset via button.
Maybe when he hit the water the motor sucked in just enough vapour to bugger the mixture but not enough to "hydraulic" it totally;hopefully! hence the shutdown.
