    ABS noise?

    Hello folks,

On the weekend, at the GCLRO DARE weekend, I was driving tracks where the ABS would cut in from time to time. I can feel the pulse through the pedal - but I also get a scraping/ratchety kind of noise - I know nothing is actually hitting the ground because it also does it on the road when braking suddenly on a section of gravel - I have done a search and think this noise might be the ABS pump - does this sound right?

    Regards,

    Dan

I'd say it's your Traction Control?

Sounds a bit like a spring being twanged - more like a scraping sound though - I'm thinking it is normal thanks waynep.

It's not TC - the only way I know TC is coming on is from the dash light, and the fact that the vehicle then tracks better - there is no noise associated with my TC.

Definitely ABS. Scared the life out of me the first time ours came on.

There should be a similar sound to the ABS when TC activates - it is the same pump working.

If you have no sound maybe your TC is not working.

Thanks Numpty - scared me too! But I don't hear it with TC coming on - but I'm sure it's working as the vehicle corrects itself in terms of it's track when the TC light illuminates.

Does your 110 make a similar noise with just TC on?

Mate all normal, I had both ABS and TC come on at the weekend down there, you get used to the noise . You should hear the HDC when you are going down something steep . And yes both are similiar sounding,

Yep, I heard it too. I've got to say, there is no way I could have controlled the downhill motion of the vehicle better than the HDC did. Absolutely marvellous on the long, steep, slippery surfaces on Sunday.....

Thank you all for your replies to my question - I do now recall a noise when TC cuts in - it's very similar to the noise I was describing but without the clicking/ratchety sound.

I'm glad to know what I'm hearing is normal - because it scared the daylights out of me when I first heard it - I thought I'd left the underside of my 110 on the track!

Isn't this forum just the best?
