Brake problems
As some of you will remember, last week the 2a spent several hours bogged to the top of the wheels in a creek.
This has resulted in a few problems. The first one was the need to pull the starter off and clean the pinion shaft thread.
As part of my preparation for Cooma, I ran it into the shed to check, fully expecting to find water in the axles (I did, and the front has been drained and refilled, rear probably tomorrow).
I planned to pull the drums off and clean any sand out, as the brakes sounded gritty. What I did not expect to find was that the right hand drum was packed full of sand - every bit of space in the drum was packed with sand, and the lining was just about down to metal on one shoe. Left hand had a lot less sand, but the linings still pretty worn. (I haven't looked at the back yet).
Given the short time to Cooma, this presented a problem, but I managed to find a set of very good shoes on one of my rolling sets of spares, and have fitted these.
I am not sure why the right side was a lot worse, unless it was that it was the upstream side.
Tomorrow I will be working backwards from the front axle checking things. First order is to replace the boot on the front prop shaft, then check gearbox, overdrive and transfer case - I don't expect water in them as the water did not get high enough.
