Thread: What 5 speed box will fit my 109 v8

My brother in-law has a 1984 109 v8. He uses it mainly on road, with only light off road use. I have a lt77 out of a v8 disco, will it fit or, what will fit with out too much mods. He is not really interested in the o/d used for these. Thanx, Anthony.

Hi, Not too sure on the gearbox mounts. But the the 109 V8 also known as a stage one has a cardinal joint (double uni) on the gearbox end of the drive shaft to reduce vibration because of the angle changes on the drive flange on the front diff with the leaf springs. The friction plate in the clutch would have to be changed, the 4 speed (LT95) has a course spline where the LT77 has a fine spline the same as a LT85. The LT77 is a hugh step backwards in strength as they have tiny gears in them compared to the LT95. If you are really serious about the conversion I would use a Late model RT 380 or a LT85 as they are much stronger.
