    Wouldn't you like a small turbo sometimes to get fast spoolup and boost at low rpm? Wouldn't you like a larger turbo at other times for more top end power?
    This is what a VNT does.
    Hi Dougal;

    I 've spent sometime researching for VNT unit for my tdi disco and I knew the VNT option was available for a tdi , however I've always been under impression that the TD5 Turbo charger was a VNT type ,and a TD5 already puts out pretty good torque and power low down and they're highway drivability IMO is pretty good , and with the chipping and better intercooling you can really improve the performance out of a TD5 ,I guess the point I was getting at was what sort of power vs Torque gain can one expect or // be achieved with addition of one of these VNT units pictured above once a Td5 is already chipped and intercooled ?

    any idea?

    and would the extra performance be worth the dollars spent.

    Hi Aaron;

    non flashable fitted vehicles actually respond better to a hard wired upgrade ECU....apparently ,this is from one of the earlier posts.
    They have more mapping points in the programming than the later type ECUs.

    ah I was just comparing the dollars spent Vs Performance gained

    The stock TD5 turbo is fixed geometry wastegated type. The garrett model name is GT2052S, S means single entry.

    Sorry I'd only be guessing if I was throwing out numbers for power and torque increase. The biggest benefit is going to be a much wider torque curve which will result in more top end power as well as low end torque. But I expect the guys selling this turbo will provide numbers soon enough.
    I have a GT2256V which I will fit to my Isuzu when I can sort out a new workshop (just moved house), then I will know more.

    Performance vs dollars is a personal decision. Some will spend hundreds of thousands chasing a tenth of a second.
