Its the number of studs and then the PCD which is basically the diameter of the stud arrangement. In that case it is 5 studs in a diameter of 5.5" or 6.5".
does anyone happen to know the disco one stud pattern measurements? i am looking at mag wheels on websites and they quote 5x5.5 and 5x6.5 but what does all that mean?

thanks slunnie, after reading that website all land rovers are 6.5, but thats not right, your disco is different to mine as is the new rangie and the p38a.
So that would be for the earlier land rovers and range rovers

yeah thats it. Everything updated by BMW or later except the Defender are all 5x120mm. D2,D3, all Freelanders, P38 and everything current are 5x120mm except defenders. Buuuut, the diameter of the centralising hub, the studs and the wheel nuts vary on the new stuff!

Also rover studs are larger diameter at 16mm (early models 5/8"). Most landcruisers and patrols have 12mm dia studs and smaller pitch circle.
101 land rover are different again, but not of concern to most.
Ace,
Your Disco is 5x6.5.with 16MM studs.
If you are looking at mags, you may be able to have a style with a flat centre drilled for you by the maker.
BUT you would have to be certain that the load rating is sufficient.
Range Rover Classic mags weigh 10KGs each, vs Disco 1 steels at 13Kg, because they had cracking in testing them originally and beefed them up A LOT.

Actually Landrovers were 9/16" not 5/8", from Series 1 up to late S2a - change to 16mm was in about 1971, but the book does not give either the date or the suffix, so it was probably not all at once.
When I was first using Landcruisers in the mid sixties, we always carried half a dozen wheel studs and nuts in the glove box to replace the ones that broke. Apart from being small and closer together compared to landrovers, I think they were a bit brittle.
