I used to use the Z9 on my previous RR as they were dirt cheap. The shorter Z89A is more expensive that the genuine ERR3340.
G'day....has does anybody use Ryco filters ? (Oil,fuel,Air)
Would there be any problem in using them instead of genuine land rover ones ?? (probably the same thing anyway)
Thanks
Adrian

In my experience the Ryco has a better /more consistent anti drain back valve than the ERR3340.
I had several bad ERR3340s and then a couple of bad Rycos, so I now use Purolator L14670. I have not had a single bad valve yet.
I have no way of testing the filter media , but my impression is the ERR3340 is a pretty cheap filter made by Coopers in UK not Cooper which is Ryco. Purolator invented oil filters and though the L14670 is not a Pure One , I believe it has pretty good specs.

I believe that the ERR3340, or at least the ones I've seen are made by Delphi in the UK/Europe.
They are nothing like a Coopers filter. They also use a pretty ingenious construction method.
Ryco media specs aren't the best, they opt for flow over filtration. The Z89A/Z9A used to range in the 30-35 micron nominal range.
I have specs here somewhere for the Purolator model that is the ERR3340 replacement, not the Z89A cross, and it is also pretty average in filtration specs as it isn't made by Purolator in the US, just re-branded.
IMO, the best dedicated ERR3340 replacement filter is made by Mann-Hummel. Pt. # W930-20.
The best Z9 style filters are made by Fleetguard and Donaldson with their synthetic fibre media. Nothing else can touch them for filtration efficiency and flow, although their ADBV's are terrible. (both these manufacturers Z9A/AFL1/FL1A style range are assembled by an outside supplier, Champion Labs in the US)
The best value Z9 type filter is the Pure One, nearly the same filtration as the synthetic medias, no where near the flow capabilty at a much, much better price.

BTW, the correct Purolator cross for the ERR3340 is their L25195, not what is recommended in Australia.
It seems that all the Oz importer did is cross with the Ryco Z89A, not the ERR3340.
I've confirmed this a few years back with their engineers in the US.

Dont have the nice ladies number do you
Probably these folks-
Sydney Filter Services supply filters for trucks.
I've been checking them out for the Mann-Hummel Provent filter media replacement.
Cheers

The Purolator L14670 is OEM cross for all Jeep 6 and V8 for the last 10-15 years , so one would think it has sufficient capacity/flow rate etc for a Rover V8.They are a little shorter than an L25190, but AFAIK the L25190 is not available in Australia and neither is the PL14670. I rang Mann+Hummel who own Purolator and confirmed it. I think it's possible to get a little hung up about length. LOL.
They are made in USA. I just rechecked the box. They even have the name of the Mexican importer on em, so not made in Mexico. So a different filter than the one referred to by Rick 130.
I tried to buy a Mann from Sydney Filters, but the Mann European catalogue incorrectly showed 940/1 for a 3.9. I ordered 6. When they turned up they were wrong (long) and they only had 4 930/20 in the country, needing credits and reinvoice. I took 6 L14670 instead.
IMHO the quality of the anti drain back valve is maybe as important to a Rover V8 as the media. Dry starts can and do damage the camshaft and I have had 10 seconds on an ERR3340, which I returned. The replacement was better but not good. Maybe a bad batch.
