I had pretty much this happen on our Vitara and it was a craked head also. Had cracked along under where the cam sits.

    Hope its something simple though.

Whatever it is I wouldn't be driving it until it's fixed.

Mine did the same thing and that was a cracked head, don't know whether the overheating caused the cracked head or vice versa though.

Hope for your sake it isn't because it cost me $5k to fix and that was two years ago.

Also check your sump oil and make sure it isn't contaminated with diesel which can happen if the head is cracked.

Over the past 2 days i have been trying different things, so it goes in to have the head looked at on Monday

I have had a boost in that the heads on TD5s are serviceable, so all up if the head is OK $2000 if not, $4500

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Jammed thermostat will do this. I have a thermostat with the guts drilled out due to this. Blown head will also do it.
    Good luck baz

Sorry to hear this baz, it sucks mate.

I was going to say it sounds like the head, we drilled George130's thermostat when he was having the same problems as you described, it didnt fix the problem and when he got home it turned out it was a stuffed head.

Maybe ring around in the UK for a head, might get one cheaper and fit it yourself. Matt

Sorry to here about your head Redback mine goes in on Monday to check on the 4 wheel dynamometer, this will confirm what I already know and my previous workshop should have known.
I just hope the head is serviceable. Paid enough in repairs the last 12 months aother big bill would test the spirit some what.
