The clunk is coming from inside the bell housing could indicate the clutch release lever/fork wearing through the ball it pivots on. This is a common/known problem. If it is still the original one it is probably about due.
When I had my rear main seal done at 116,000 km the fork was even then quite worn so was replaced.

But check out all your external stuff first.

the clunk does not fill me with confidence and I suspect that it is your fork decided its had enough.

if you pull the slave out you should be able to get a finger or needle nose pliers on it to give it a wiggle. you'll know if its the fork,

This is exactly what happend to my landy and it was the clutch release fork.
Simple to repair but you do have to drop the box to get to it.

My 95 Disco S1 300 TDI had a similar problem pedal worked al ov a sudden at floor level at 240000, the clutch fork had was slowly worn on the pivet point and had started punching through, when it went through I blew the plastic coiled hydraulic line from master cyclinder to the slave cylinder which I had repaired and I refited asi thought this was the problem as all oil had gone, bled line but the cluthch then felt like a brake peddle. Took Disco to brake and clutch and they droped out the box and found the pivet point had punched through the fork and was not piveting. Fitted first new clutch new fork and away we went. My strange clutch story.
