Try Ryano at Fourby's Moorooka. I have dealt with him before and he is a good bloke - will repair it for a decent price if at all possible. He posts on outerlimits.

I staked a brand new 255 Bighorn in almost the same spot. Tyre place I bought it from repaired it no problem. They said it definitely wasn't a new tyre any more though. They said that a more major sidewall repair would have to be sent away, (and would cost more), but was still possible.

I just had a Coopers ATR repaired with a some what similar cut. It was just where the tread met the sidewall and was about 4mm long. They did a 'major repair' and it looks like they have vulcanised the cut on the outside as well. It cost me $60

considering it was the same size tyre you fixed for me that day when i spiked a new one.
recently, like two weeks ago i took a 'going flat' tyre off to look at it and saw large splits inside, took it to 3 places which said 'kangaroo edward' and the next chap sent it to bris vegas and it came back repaired.

Apparently there is nobody left round here who will do other than very minor repairs to car or light truck tyres. The reason given is problems with getting affordable liability insurance.

You can still get repairs to truck, tractor and implement tyres apparently, although I have not wanted to get one of any sort for several years - they have all been obvious write-offs.

i little differant, but more so on the tread, the cut on the outside would be around 40mm

I'm guessing here, but aren't there Australian Standards on tyre repairs? e.g. we can plug a tyre, but a repair shop cannot.

I've got a vague idea that punctures exceeding x mm or in certain locations breach these Standards?

Anyone know?

you are probably right......it was one of the large tyre chains that i dropped into yesterday and there was no way of sweet talking him

i shouldn't be so tight i was more than likely going to fit new shoes around april 09 so that gives you an indication of the amount of tread left.....i should measure how much is left

I always think that they're in the business of selling tyres and thats what they try to do.

With my recent "mishap" I returned to the tyre place and after listening to all the "nah, new tyre", can't, won't, etc. I explained that I won't be buying a tyre this week after buying 5 last week and that I'd fit a "string" plug myself, and keep it as a spare - if they couldn't offer me anything better.

They removed the tyre and we checked the inside for further damage, was OK. They fitted a "mushroom plug" (didn't charge me = no liability?) and it's now a spare.

'Spose it depends how bad it really is ... I remember when I was fitting tyres all those years ago there were things that I couldn't/wouldn't fix.
