howdy all , bought myself a oil pressure gauge last week for the rover , fitted the gauge into the dash , run the hose , but when i went to replace the original sender unit , the supplied one with the gauge does not fitt .thought "oh well ill just buy an addapter " but im finding one hard to find . have you guys fitted pressure gauges and if so where and how did you do it . thank in advance . Graham.
Hi Wells
Can you update in your profile where you are located
Not sure what engine you have got ....
For my V8 3.9
No aftermarket sender units will fit ... different thread
I installed a (non electric) mechanical pressure gauge & had to find new brass fittings and recut the thread with a Dye / / Take your old sender unit out / go to a shop that sells fittings (Coventry's / Agriculture shop??) Chose one that is close in thread (Metric from memory) & also buy the right Dye (half inch UNF from memory) ... Use your sender to find & compare the match
Install with thread tape, to seal the thread
The reason for cutting the thread on the brass fitting is that you can refit at a later stage (if needed) the "original" sender unit
I did mine in Esperance WA / went to 6 Agriculture shops before i got all my parts
Mike
Thanks Mike . ill take it out and take it to work . we have a large tool room , they will cut me another blank and tap it . thanks for your help (again )
Take the sender to Pirtek or Enzed etc. You need a tee fitting, but you will need to be careful which type of tee you get depending on if your installing a mechanical or electrical guage. The sender for an electrical unit is quite large and its a bitch to fit it.
I did mine not too long ago but have since chucked all the packets.
