    Where's the oil filter?

Anyone with a new Fender seen where the oil filter is yet?
I want to change the oil myself now at 8K instead of at agents at 20K but am not sure exactly where the filter is situated.
I did see a plastic cover quite low down under the engine which looks like it is atached to some form of plate heat exchanger but I don't want to loosen it until I know for sure.
I also pumped a few squirs of CV grease into the prop's and Univesals but the front prop has an akward 90 degree type nipple and the fitting on the gun cannot enter close to the nipple. Can one get other heads for a grease gun with a narrower head?
    Thanks James

Swap the grease nipple for a straight one, to grease, and if required swap back for the dealer service.

No idea about the oil filter though

Sorry, can't help, except to say that you would be wasting your $$$. The filter will last a lot longer than 8000km.

If you REALLY want to, change the oil, but not the filter.

    Thanks

    Thanks guys.
So I guess you are saying that modern filters and oil are actually better quality than old and that manufacturers recommending 20K intervals is OK?
My wife drives the fender and does only short trips under 5km's at a time so I thought it may be better to change before.
Should I change the oil so soon as well or maybe a bit later?
We have done a fair bit of off-road but never all full throttle, we always drive the landy calmly around town cause we would like to keep her for the next 30 years I hope.
    Cheers

What is your diesel quality and sulphur level like? I am guessing not good?

Short trips mean more soot and acidification from the sulphur in the diesel (if high sulphur). It would probably be worth changing the oil at 10k if that is the case.

A full flow filter only removes the rocks - and it is only worth replacing it after it has removed something. at 5k or 10k it will probably still be quite clean. Does the engine have a bypass filter/centrifuge.

The oil Filter is next to the sump. I suggest changing it early. I did mine twice before the first service which was 12,000 kays. It is way to far for a first service.

    Xav

Just a bit more info- I am led to believe the td5 or 300tdi filters don't fit so you need to make sure you get the puma engine one. You'll notice if you look under the vehicle near the sump their is a rounded housing- your filter is inside there. It's a pretty messy job I found with that one.

Check you get a fully synthetic oil too. Costs a fortune but that's what the engine is designed to swallow.

The old TD5 engine has a bypass centrifuge that does a good job of secondary oil filtration removing the fine particles that the full flow filter can't. This extends the oil change interval.

It would be a backward move if the newer engine doesn't have a bypass centrifuge.

I'm a believer in one or two fairly early oil (and filter) changes in new engines. You still get a fair bit of trash and debris in modern engines when running in and it's better to get rid of it rather than go the 12 or 20,000km to the first service, and doubly so if your diesel sulphur levels are above 50ppm.

    No harm then

Guess I had better take no chances and do it early.
Not sure about the centrifuge, don't think it has one.
My buddies TD5 you can hear the centifuge winding down when shutting the motor but mine has no noise like the TD5.
I guess it would just be a higher cost thing rather than a total waste of money.
Any other tricks or would id just be open drain plug and remove filter, prime with some oil in the cartridge and refit.
We do have low sulphur diesel which I always use
