the previous owner of my rig did it at every 80K, have just had mine replaced at 240K
Hi,
Just wondering how many k's between timing belt changes on 300tdi.
Thanks.
the previous owner of my rig did it at every 80K, have just had mine replaced at 240K
I had one break at 69000km.
What does the manufacturer recomend.
I am not to sure its in a 1997 Disco.
Thanks.
I'm not sure it's that simple. I couldnt find a reference in my owners handbook or RAVE. And that would have been pre-fix anyway. And there a few flavours of timing belt fix as well. What I've heard is if you doing heavy towing or lots off road - do it at 60k, otherwise 80k.
If you do a search on 300Tdi timing belts you will find a huge amount of information.
The most common figure quoted is 80,000km although as already mentioned 60,000km is a safe bet.
If you have all the mods done and the belt is installed and tensioned properly most seem to be able to get a 80,000 to well over 100,000km and when replaced the belts look in top condition.
My car when purchased had done just over 80,000km and the belt looked near perfect when I replaced it. Their was only a hint of fine dust inside the cover. I am glad that I did it though and will be replacing mine between 60,000km - 80,000km. Having already done over 10,000km in about six months I have got at least three years ahead of me.
However we replaced a friends belt and there was only 3/4's of the belt left. It had about 80,000km done since the last belt so it pays to be safe. We would have hated having to replace rockers and rods etc if the belt had given way.
Remember to check the front cover bearing when doing the job as they have usually had it by 200,000km.
