    300 tdi not starting

Hi everyone,I am restoring a 130 defender and just fitted a new r380 gearbox, heavy duty clutch and a good secondhand transfer case,
problem is motor won't turn over.
New battery fitted, checked the fuses found a dead short where I had pinched the Glow plug wire between the bell housing and the motor so I have cut the wire to the glow plug and replaced the blown fuse and checked the other fuses.
Checked the relays and they seem fine.
Checked the ignition switch and that seems fine.
The vehicle is a 1996 model does anyone have any suggestions on rectifying this problem.
    cheers Mike.

An expansion on what Mr Pat said: The starter solenoid has an ordinary spade terminal for power - put power to that terminal and it should spin the starter motor. In Disco's that connector has a habit of coming loose and getting dirty, so a clean up and tighten might be called for. Also check earthing points on the chassis, motor and GB. Do you have the alarm turned off?

As said already. If it doesn't turn over I'd start looking at the starter motor, provided the battery (being new) is sufficiently charged and works well. An otherwise healthy Tdi-engine will start even without previous glow plug activation.

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
