    Handbrake Light

Heading down a steep slope on the weekend......1st gear/low range.... and the handbrake light kept coming on.

No burning smell or anything....why would this happen and is it something that needs attention.

Thanks, all answers very much appreciated.

I think the light comes on from low vacum on the booster because you are using the brakes with minimal engine revs. Mine does the same when at the bottom of a big hill light goes out. Nothing to worry about.

Have you had your car cleaned by Australia finest? i.e. The quarentine people?

After they cleaned my car the electric fan burnt out, driving lights don't work and handbrake light flickers on at alsorts of speeds.

    Doesn't answer your question though

    Regards

    Brendan

PS what is solution for a flickering handbrake light? Besides removing the bulb!

My guess is that the handbreak light switch has

    1. Dirty contacts
    2. Is faulty
    3. Needs adjustment / refitting properly

You could be right there, on the earlier defenders the h'brake and low fluid lights were the same.

And if you are bouncing down a steep hill that could cause the fluid switch in the brake master cylinder to 'twitch' a little

    Thanks fellas.

I have a sneaky suspicion that it needs adjusting - I will check the fluid levels but I'm usually on top of that kind of stuff.

I've had two td5 defenders and they both do it when heading down steep hills. Fluid level ok. I put it down to the extreme angle causing the warning light to activate.
(The " ! " symbol is for handbrake and low fluid level)
