    URGENT 300tdi alternator Q

this is in relation to my other thread alternator 300tdo

I first thought jimbo was onto something until i seen rick's post which cancelled jimbo theroy, that until the following

problem - the battery indicater bulb is good, well i swapped it with another bulb and the bulb still does not come on, when i start the car no charge from the alternator until i pull the excite wire

Q can i leave the excite wire off

where else do i look to make the battery light on the dash work

There is also a diode in between the bulb and the alternator - or there is a short in the wire somewhere. If the glowplug light comes on, then the bulb should be getting power. Grounding the brown/yellow wire should light it up.

Disconnecting the power feed for the alternator should not make it crank out 13.4v - a trip to an auto electrician is probably a better idea
