In Conoco's 'synthetic' oils they use a Korean sourced Group III (hydrocracked) base that is very good according to my sources, ranks up there with Shells XHVI oil for quality/consistency.
Penrite also use the Korean Group III base oil in their semi-synths and synthetics (as well as PAO's and esters, depends on the oil).

    Penrite SIN Diesel 5w/40

    2004 D2a TD5

So far so good. Less engine noise than with previous Mobil1 it replaced.

Any reccomendations on oil drain intervals using this stuff ??

    Kev,

I use the same stuff on my rebuilt Tdi and religously change oil and filter every 10,000 k's. Also do similiar trips to you no heavy off road.

I have noticed how clean the oil stays between changes compared to the old mineral stuff.

    Regards

    Martin

From personal experiance i dislike penrite oils,i will never use it in any of my vehicles again, running penrite in my 1995 mack 12litre diesel truck i was forever topping up the oil, penrite oil ran hotter as i have a oil temp gauge in the truck,i also used hpr 50 in my 351 xy falcon show car that had $12000 worth of performance upgrades i was forever cleaning out the rocker covers due to the build up of sludge,Penrite oil was recomended to me ,i tried it and it doesnt work for me,i now use PM oil now and i find it to be a great oil,my temp gauge now runs a whole 20 degrees cooler engine is quiter, fuel consumption is improving and i change the oil less, yes its expensive to buy but in the long run you are way ahead....Wes.

If you were burning oil then it is more than likely an issue with the engine more than the oil. The oil to burn off on its own would have to get extremely hot. Having said that engines are actually supposed to burn some oil. I would have thought a Mack truck would warrant a fairly viscous oil?
I have had absolutely no sludge build up using Penrite. Actually quite the opposite, it seems to have cleaned all the sludge out of the motor.
