    Exhaust flange nuts

Can anyone tell me what type/size they would be on my D2?

(I'm sorry my rave cd is back in Maryborough)

If you are talking of the nuts holding the down pipes to the manifold, then they are M8 according to the parts catalogue.

ERR4245 - probably steel self-locking like the M10 ones used on the P38A.

Personally, I prefer brass. They don't rust on.

On our TD5 Disco the nuts are 10mm self locking - largish collar with sort of a ripple strip on the under side. I lost both of mine on one trip - now have standard nuts with spring washers - the only thing available at the time - also used "Dixons" graphite so they can be undone again in the future. Cheers, Erich

    I'm pretty sure Pedro's car is a V8.

That's why I'm surprised the nuts are 8mm when the engine is the same as the P38A (which uses 10mm).

Please always specify the screw pitch when describing threaded fasteners. Are we talking 8mm. x 0.75, x 1.0, x 1.25, x 1.5? I can supply taps and dies in any of these or in 10 mm. Metric threads are a right PIA!!! The users think the metric system solved all fastener problems and are sure that there is only one "M8" or any other "M". 12mm. has at least five commonly encountered pitches.

For exhaust manifolds use only brass nuts on steel studs. Use high temperature anti-seize if you plan to remove them again. Use a flat hardened washer. Spring washers are ineffective after a number of heating and cooling cycles. For surety drill and wire the stud. Run a tap and die over the stud and nut before refitting.

I don't know if they are ISO coarse or ISO fine.

I have some M10 outside for the P38A. I could check them. I'd expect ISO coarse.

I have checked MicroCat and it also shows the D2 Td5 as 10mm and the D2 V8 as 8mm

Sorry to hijack this thread, but my query is in a similar vein.

I'm about to go buy a replacement RH exhaust manifold for the one that has cracked on my D2 V8.

Specifically, I have looked at the RAVE instructions but it didn't mention new replacement nuts. Are they necessary for both the manifold to head and the manifold to downpipe?

I am assuming from the above comments that the nuts will most likely be hard to remove (there was a thread elsewhere of a new-beaut spray to loosen such fixings, maybe I should try that) so any tips for getting them off if they are seemingly welded on?
