You've got it John. No accessory position on the ignition switch as diesels don't have an ignition coil to burn out by leaving the ignition on, so need for an accessory position. However if you are in the habit of parking in reverse gear you could flatten the battery hence wiring through an oil pressure switch.
Possibly a legal requirement - reversing light signals "this vehicle is about to move backwards". I can't imagine Landrover worrying about running the battery flat -after all they didn't bother about a headlight warning or anything like that.
