Why don't you get a new carby for it. There are a number of ones that are easier to tune.

						Hi Everyone,
I am looking at replacing the 2.25 petrol engine in my series 2a with either a deisel or holden engine (Tasmania). I am forever tuning the 2.25ltr it will run great for about 2 days then it will revert back to its usual self, it fills the cab up with petrol fumes and uses a lot I mean a LOT of petrol. I love the landie it's self and really don't want to get rid of it if I don't have too.

Where abouts are you? There must be something wrong with the carby if that is the case. I can't wait to see the back end of the holden motor in my series 3. I'm swapping it with a mate who has a 2.6 6 cylinder for me to put back into it.

I would be looking at why it wont stay in tune before resorting to a conversion.
But if your hell bent on doing a conversion then look into either a 4BD1 or 300Tdi conversion before stuffing around with a Holden engine that will be just about as reliable as the 2.25 and have similar tuning problems but with an engine that is not made to be fitted in a 4wd.
If cheap is your thing then fix the 2.25, it will be Muuuuch cheaper.

						I am in Hobart/Kettering I wouild love to be able to keep my landie as original as possible, and have been told thatthe 2.25 engine is quite a good one. Could any suggest a carby for it. I use it every day and wish that it would idle without cutting out and stop filling the cab with fuel smell. I am far from being a mechanic, I did take it to a great mechanic whom had it running really well for a few days. I also have a holden air filter on it would I be better going back to the original one.

Are you anywhere near Kingston, go and see Jase, he is near the Kingston beach golf club apparently.
He should be able to sort you out with a carbi or a decent rebuild.
It sounds like it may need a full overhaul or replacement which you can get money order from any number of places like 4 wheel drives in Blackburn in Melb, 03 98900509 or someone else may have a prefered supplier.
The air filter shouldn't be an issue, but as mcrover said, make an appoiintment to see somebnody at justin cooper and get it fixed properly. The original engine will be stronger and ore economical than most conversions, and far less stuffing around.
Also, you ever tried to insure a landie with a holden conversion, nobody will touch it technically!

						I do normally take it too Justins, that's whom I took it too last time and paul had a look at it they done a great job can highly recommend them, the only problem I had was a few days later it was back to normal again. I will book it back in with them to have another look.

Or fit a early holden carb with a adjustable main jet , its a cheap inexpensive fix in the short term
defenitely go back and let them know what happened. I'm sure that they will be able to figure out what is going on. At worst case, a carby reconditioning kit isn't that expensive and may solve your problems!
