You can carry a spare ecu you just have to have it coded.
I bought a spare and had that chipped. I use this one and carry the factory one around with me. I also have a nanocom, but IMHO this is complete overkill. I know lots of people with you rarely hear of someone with a fuel injected cars carrying spare ecu's but there you go.
You are welcome to have a drive in mine if you ever want if it's of any help. I can also demonstrate the nanocom if you want.![]()

I have no problem with the TD5 as a motor and mine has been trouble free for 70000kms. BUT, I'm glad I bought mine new and know how it has been treated and serviced as I think a lot of the bad rep the motor has is based on it being more fragile then some with regard to poor maintenace. Be prepared to pamper it with regard to servicing and I think reliability is a given, besides some known faults that are best addressed before rather than later. As for serviciability etc... I took a look under the bonnet of a new Patrol recently, the one with the top mounted intercooler, I know which motor I would rather have to work on.
